“An absolute must in the Casal collections, originated from the family archives. Nobody knows today precisely the origins of this design. Nevertheless according to the motifs and their treatment, it seems that it is a drawing of the 18th century. The print shows elegant floral motifs of medium size, drawn with many details and great refinement. The composition of the design is punctuated and structured by the presence of branches, giving beautiful depth. The large botanical motifs treated in color are completed in all delicacy by a floral background in single-color set. A colorway in automn-tones presented on washed half-linen has been joined to the original document colorway printed on a chintzy cotton canvas.”

“This drawing with small motifs of the Museum of the toile de Jouy is dated around 1792. Formerly it was also block-printed in 7 colors. The small chimerical and burlesque creatures, first mentioned by Rabelais in "Gargantua" in the 16th century, mingle with floral motifs in a playful and poetic composition. A dark outline delineates all the patterns and adorns them with delicacy. The richness of the botanical elements is remarkable, and the design shows a great sense of detail. The scenes of these two drawings illustrate the good leisure time of the bourgeois life in winter and summer, fashionable at the time: roller coasters, acrobats, ice skating, ring games, picnic on the countryside and other pleasant moments outside. The original sketches, dated 1819, also come from the Prévot family archives.”

“The trends in the toile de Jouy will evolve later on mythological subjects of ancient Greece. Huet created in 1797 the famous Diane Chasseresse, one of Jouy's most copied designs. It has been in the collections of the different companies of the Prévot-Scheurer families for more than 150 years without interruption, and is one of the major classics. A new version of engraving was developed in the 1980's, ading a "ring" pattern to readjust the repeat from 80cm to 150 cm wide. The classic colorways of Jouy have been updated on lighter and more neutral backgrounds.”
