“This enduring GP & J Baker Classic was created exclusively for the Company bu the renowned British textile designer William Turner in 1915. A Ming dynasty (15th - 16th century) painting on a silk panel in the British Museum was his inspiration for this design of drooping lotus leaves and birds contrasting the patient stillness of the egret with the quick decisive movements of the kingfisher.”

California är ett ovanligt mönster i G P & J Bakers sortiment, som annars är väldigt klassiskt och inspirerat av Asien. Mönstret hette från början Modern och skapades 1928. Här är det tryckt på 68,5 cm bred nonwoven.

“During the late 1920s and 1930s, the abstraction of natural forms became fashionable and designers began to concentrate purely on line. 'California', originally called 'Modern', was designed in 1928 by the GP & J Baker studio probably inspired by the 1925 L'Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industrials Modernes held in Paris. The stylised exotic flowers and leaves of this beautiful design provide a perfect example of 20th century modernism.”
