'California', originally called 'Modern', was designed in 1928 by the GP & J Baker studio probably inspired by the 1925 L'Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industrials Modernes held in Paris. The stylised exotic flowers and leaves of this beautiful design provide a perfect example of 20th century modernism.”

“This enduring GP & J Baker Classic was created exclusively for the Company bu the renowned British textile designer William Turner in 1915. A Ming dynasty (15th - 16th century) painting on a silk panel in the British Museum was his inspiration for this design of drooping lotus leaves and birds contrasting the patient stillness of the egret with the quick decisive movements of the kingfisher.”
