“These two designs (Plaisirs d'été-Plaisirs d'hiver), commissionned by the designer Auguste-Xavier Leprince at the beginning of the 18th century by the Manufacture de Nantes have never been printed industrially. This order was certainly initiated by the idea of innovation of motifs in the toile de Jouy. The scenes of these two drawings illustrate the good leisure time of the bourgeois life in winter and summer, fashionable at the time: roller coasters, acrobats, ice skating, ring games, picnic on the countryside and other pleasant moments outside. The original sketches, dated 1819, also come from the Prévot family archives.”
