“This drawing, dated 1785, from the Museum of Fabric Printing in Mulhouse, was created in the "Fabrique d'Indiennes des frères Haussmann" in Colmar. These small flowers are probably the precursors of the "Liberty" motifs put on the market by a famous clothier of the same name, 100 years later in England. The stylized motif is spread with lightness and fluidity, and is delimited by fine outine, very characteristic of this kind of drawing. Subtle touches of soft tones color these romantic flowers. There is a slightly abstract interpretation in the stripes and floral ornaments of Charlotte, however drawn with grace and finesse. Printed on a cretonne of cotton in the original color.”
