La Fayette från Charles Burger är baserad på en klassisk Toile de Jouy. För att bibehålla originalstorleken är mönstret digitaltryckt på 90 cm breda rullar. Mönstret finns även som matchande textil.
“This toile symbolises the American people's recognition of their debt to La Fayette and Rochambeau whose expeditions helped establish their independence, a subject which created considerable public interest in France at that time. France is represented by the figure of a lady with crown and sceptre resting on a globe ornamented with fleurs de lys. A red Indian, a Negro and an émigré carrying a flag spangled with thirteen stars pay homage. Red Indians in feathered headdresses can be seen around the ships. The port of La Rochelle, which was the point of departure of the expeditionary forces for the Americans, can also be perceived. Design by Jean Baptiste Huet. Manufactured in Jouy around 1783.”
